About Tiadaghton House

Jim and Holly
We get a lot of comments on the store's name. Tiadaghton (tie-a-dotten) is an Iroquois word for "River of Pines" -- this was the Indian name for Pine Creek, the creek in central PA flowing near the town where Holly and I grew up.

We grew up together in Jersey Shore, PA-- a small town in the mountains of central Pennsylvania.  After 28 great years moving around with Air Force, we decided to settle down and open the shop we've always dreamed about.  We chose the St. Louis Metro East region because we loved the character of the mid-westerners, the small town feel of Lebanon, and we had kept our home in O'Fallon from a previous Air Force assignment.  Since our twin girls began high school in 2013, we thought it would be a good time to plant some roots and settle down.

The "Tiadaghton House" (pronounced "tie-a-dotten") features local art, antiques and fine American craft.  We feature over 70 local artists and craftsmen and the vast majority live within 30 miles of Lebanon.  Our goal is to create a "micro-community" of like-minded artists and craftsmen who can work together to promote art and American craft in a positive environment.  We do not jury the work we show -- if we like it and it's a good fit for the store, we find a way to work it in.  We feature national and international award winners as well as young, new artists who have never shown their work in a retail venue before.  And we try hard to include work at all price points so art is easily accessible to all our customers.  We offer four studio/gallery spaces upstairs so that we have resident artists who work and sell here to provide a more-encompassing art experience for our customers who can directly interact with artists, take classes, and gain inspiration from several accomplished, on-site artisans.  Finally, we also offer just a few of our favorite antiques -- usually 20th century decorative arts pieces highlighting the American Arts & Crafts movement of the early 1900's.  You will find many original pieces of Stickley, Limbert and Roycroft furniture, hand-hammered copper and more.

We hope you come and visit, enjoy a cup of coffee with us, and buy a few items that make you happy!
